Will Etsy, Vinted or eBay report your sales to HMRC?

Since 2024, selling platforms report sellers who pass a line each calendar year. Check one platform at a time.

In one calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. Count every sale, including your own unwanted things.
For the same year, after the platform's fees.

Do you need to tell HMRC?

This is separate from platform reporting. It uses your total trading income for the tax year.

6 April to 5 April. Sales before fees, less refunds, from every place you sell, including fairs. Leave out your own unwanted things.

How it works

  • A platform may report you at 30 or more sales, or about £1,700 (€2,000) or more paid to you after fees, in a calendar year. Close means within 20% of either. Platforms can count differently, so check the copy they send you.
  • Platforms report to HMRC by 31 January and send you a copy. Selling your own unwanted things, such as old clothes, usually isn't trading. Things you make or buy to sell usually are.
